Institute of Industrial Electronics Engineering

Brief Description

Electrical and Electronics Engineering courses are almost invariably offered by all the engineering universities of the country, but the need was felt for introducing a practically oriented course in this field. Thus the need of establishing the Institute of Industrial Electronics Engineering was felt by the Government of Pakistan and the task was assigned to the Ministry of Science & Technology and PCSIR.In 1985 a study mission of Swiss experts were invited to Pakistan and it was identified that Pakistan needs practical oriented engineers particularly in the field of industrial electronics engineering. The Swiss Government offered to establish an Industrial Electronics Institute and agreement of cooperation was signed in this regard. The present location was selected for building institute, while the cost of building, the infrastructure, provision of utilities etc. were borne by the Ministry of Science and Technology through PCSIR. All the equipment for establishing laboratories and three experts were provided by the Swiss Government. PCSIR recruited the faculty staff to support the academic/administrative activities. The curriculum and training program was jointly worked out by the Project Director, Syed Sadiq Ali Rizvi and Swiss experts, and was presented on January 12, 1989 to the Academic Council and Affiliation Committee of N.E.D. University, Karachi for grant of affiliation of the Institute with NED University of Engineering and Technology and award of B.E. Degree course in Industrial Electronics Engineering. After due inspection and minor adjustment in courses, the university granted the affiliation to IIEE to conduct BE Degree courses in Industrial Electronics Engineering. The institute started its classes in June 1989 and since then it has been inducting a batch of 40 students every year. At present four batches are being trained and so far nine batches have passed out from this alma mater of industrial electronics engineers and have earned an excellent repute for the institute. All these IIEE graduates are gainfully employed in various industrial and commercial sectors throughout the country and abroad. We are also proud that this is the only institute in the country and the only second in the whole South Asia, which awards B.E. Degree in Industrial Electronics Engineering, the only other such institute in South Asia being working in Bangalore, India. The Campus of the Institute of Industrial Electronics Engineering is located in Block-6, Gulshan-e-Iqbal on the Main University Road, Karachi. The Sindh Technical Board, National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) and the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP) form the immediate environment of IIEE.The campus has been professionally designed to provide a home to the Institute, appropriate for the needs of a Centre of Excellence in the field of technology. It is a modern 3-level campus. In keeping with the Institute's mission, the campus has been planned to provide the best possible educational facilities, and to create an environment that is conducive to the learning process. The campus has well-furnished class rooms, library, centrally air-conditioned auditorium, workshops and air-conditioned computer and electronic laboratories in addition to offices for the academic and administrative staff. The campus has enough open space and sitting arrangement in the lawn for the students to relax. There is also a large cricket ground in the campus.Address: ST-22/C, Block-6, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi-75300, Pakistan.AIMS AND OBJECTIVESThe basic aim and objective of establishing Institute of Industrial Electronics Engineering is to equip 40 trained practical-oriented graduate students per year to face the challenges posed due to automation of plants in industrial sector and to train them in practical-oriented engineering discipline of Industrial Electronics, with the following objectives:

1-To lay the foundation for development and generation of technical manpower and know-how in the field of Industrial Electronics.

2-Maintenance and repair of industrial equipment, instruments belonging to public and private sector organizations.

3-Quality control in production of the electronics components, devices, equipment and systems.

4-Design, development and small scale production of electronic equipment and systems.
